Over the past few weeks, residents have reported an alarming rise in antisocial behaviour at Upton Village, particularly in the later hours of the evening. A group of individuals has been deliberately targeting first-floor balconies, throwing objects ranging from glass alcohol bottles to rubbish, mops, and even poles.
These incidents are not random; they appear to be intentional acts of vandalism, creating a serious safety risk for residents and causing potential damage to property.
We understand the frustration and concern this has caused, and it’s clear that action needs to be taken.
What Can You Do?
Report Every Incident to Peabody - Peabody is responsible for managing the estate’s security. If you experience or witness antisocial behaviour, it is essential to report it to them. The more complaints they receive, the harder it will be for them to ignore the problem. You can contact them via:
Phone: 0300 123 3456
Online portal: https://www.peabody.org.uk/contact-us/report-antisocial-behaviour/
Demand CCTV Installation - One of the biggest issues we face is the lack of CCTV across the estate, making it difficult to provide concrete evidence of these incidents. If we collectively push for CCTV installation, Peabody will have to address the security concerns of the residents. When reporting incidents, make it clear that CCTV is a necessary step to protect the community.
Gather Evidence - If you witness an incident, safely record it on your phone. Do not put yourself at risk, but if it is safe to do so, discreetly capture footage or take photos. This evidence can be shared within the resident group and submitted to Peabody to strengthen our case for improved security.
Call the Authorities When Necessary - If you believe a crime is being committed or someone is at risk, do not hesitate to call 101 for non-emergencies or 999 in urgent situations. Antisocial behaviour that puts residents at risk should not be tolerated.
A Community Effort
Ensuring Upton Village remains a safe and welcoming place requires action from all of us. By reporting incidents, collecting evidence, and pressuring Peabody to install CCTV, we can send a clear message that this behaviour will not be ignored.
If you have experienced or witnessed any incidents, please share your experiences in the Upton Village Residents Facebook Group or report them directly. The more voices we have, the stronger our case for change.
Together, we can make Upton Village a safer place to live.
Great post! Thank you for writing down clear steps of action. I am sure we can make a difference if we unit the effort.
